PRW Case Study

Pernod Ricard Winemakers (PRW), whose portfolio of premium brands includes iconic Australian wines Jacob’s Creek, St Hugo, and George Wyndham, is part of the Pernod Ricard Group, the second-largest wine, spirits and Champagne company in the world.

Pernod Ricard has a global focus on technology innovation to enhance speed, safety, sustainability and efficiency in its facilities. PRW Australia is a centre of excellence that often pioneers technology before it is rolled out globally. This prompted the company to invite suppliers to provide a submission for a turnkey filling line at their production plant in South Australia.

The Challenges

However, PRW wasn’t looking for a standard turnkey line. This would be the most complex filling line yet seen in the country, requiring the 'best in breed’ equipment and would handle 140 products.

We offered an integration solution that exceeded their expectations and won the project.

The scope included Foodmach line control and line management, palletising and depalletising; Petek Process tunnel pasteurising, can and bottle drying; GEA Vipoll ALL IN ONE filling; an extensive range of BBull inspection equipment; Markem-Imaje laser and inkjet coding and print and apply labelling with compliance software; free-issued bottle labelling and cluster packing; Meypack case packing; Robopac stretch wrapping; Ambaflex portal and spiralveyors; and all Foodmach conveying, controls infrastructure, safety systems and integration

The other challenge was that PRW wanted to fill and package a huge range of products on their new line: Still wine, sparking wine and Ready-To-Drink (RTDs). This involved three different can diameters and glass bottle sizes ranging from 187ml to 750ml. The combination line needed to run at 24,000 cans per hour.

Even more challenging—it had never been done before, anywhere, globally.

Foodmach delivered on its promises and PRW has the fastest combination filling line in the southern hemisphere with world-first capability.

It's been a perfect demonstration of Line as a Machine, our integration offer.
